UPS Increasing Rates; USPS Shutting Down Next-Day Delivery
UPS has released new published rates for 2012, including a net increase of 4.9% for UPS Ground packages. Earlier this year, UPS Freight raised rates by 6.9%. Those rates, which went into effect in August, remain unchanged.
Meanwhile, the United States Postal Services (USPS) has moved forward with plans to end next-day delivery of letters, postcards and other First Class mail. Also, in a notice filed with its regulator, it sought approval to close more than half of its 461 processing facilities that have been critical for next-day delivery service.
